Green Cabled Raglan

Mary's Sweater...a Top Down Raglan.

I knit this for Nate's Mom on her birthday (June, 2004.)
The buttons are walnut and are made in Germany.

One Sleeve

This sweater has absolutely no shaping, but look how the garter stitch and cables add so much definition to the shape.  I really love how it looks like I'm wearing shoulderpads.  I'll definitely be making myself one just like it.

I worked 9-stitch cables on a 3-stitch wide garter background [So that I was able to purl the whole way on the back and not have to count stitches.  This saves alot of time!] down both sleeves, at both front edges, and down the back.  For the 1:1 ribbing, I switched to smaller needles.  I picked up both button bands (99 sitiches each!) after the rest wast finished.

It follows the recipe for the regular raglan sweater, but I knit back and forth, leaving the front open so I didn't have to cut it.  This is a good method if you don't mind purling.  If you don't want to purl, knit it in the round.
